Overview

    • The Lab-Volt Computer-Assisted Microwave Technology Training System, Model 8091, is a complete, state-of-the-art microwave training system, including data acquisition and instrumentation.

Specifically designed for hands-on training, this integrated package of hardware and courseware comes with all power supplies, high-quality microwave components, and accessories required to perform the experiments.

All measurements are performed by using the new software Lab-Volt Data Acquisition and Management for Microwave systems (LVDAM®-MW). This modern software is built around a Data Acquisition Interface (DAI), that performs 12-bit A/D acquisition on four channels.

Topic Coverage

  • Microwave Fundamentals: principles of microwave signals and their propagation; the construction and operation of microwave components; the techniques used to measure power attenuation, SWR, and impedance.
  • Microwave Tees, PIN Diodes and Applications : construction and operation of PIN diodes and hybrid tees, and how they are used in microwave applications. Wireless video transmission demonstration.
  • Microwave Variable-Frequency Measurements and Applications (optional course requiring the add-on Model 8091-1): construction and operation of variable-frequency oscillators (VCO's). Demonstration of three methods of measuring the frequency of microwave signals. Frequency modulation and demodulation of microwave signals.

Equipment Features

  • USB Data Acquisition Interface (DAI) providing the following virtual instrumentation for the LVDAM®-MW software: Power Meter, SWR Meter, Oscilloscope, Ammeter, and Voltmeter.
  • The DAI is "stackable" and powered by the Lab-Volt Gunn Oscillator Power Supply, Model 9501.
  • The DAI has four multifunction analog inputs used to digitalize signals from the microwave components. The polarity, gain, and function of these inputs are user-configurable.
  • The DAI permits adjustment and monitoring of the bias voltage applied to the Lab-Volt PIN Diode, Model 9538. It also permits modulation of the amplitude of this voltage by using an external modulating signal, or an internal 1-kHz rectangular signal.
  • The DAI permits adjustment of the frequency of the Lab-Volt Voltage Controlled RF Oscillator, Model 9511. It also permits modulation of the frequency of the RF oscillator's output signal around the carrier frequency. A frequency monitoring output, intended to be connected to the prescaler output of the RF oscillator, permits measurement of the frequency of the RF oscillator's output signal with an ordinary frequency meter.
  • The DAI provides control of the turning on and turning off of the Lab-Volt Gunn Oscillator to perform zero adjustment of the virtual Power Meter.
