A laser beam is directed into the dove prism which is antireflection (AR) coated. The first surface reflection from the entrance face of the dove prism is directed to the beam profile camera (BA-CAM). The remaining laser light then exits the dove prism and directed through a focusing lens and then into the beam waist analyzer camera (BWA-CAM). The BWA-CAM has a built-in OD of 4.0 so the camera can take a high level of laser power directly. Nevertheless, the camera includes a filter cartridge to add additional ND filters color filters as required.

As the BWA-CAM is based upon the use of a pair of Fabry-Perot resonator optics and the spacing between the optics creates "time" slices of the beam, the entire beam waist is imaged on the camera sensor so that the full beam waist caustic can be visualized and measured without any moving parts. Further, the spacing of the Fabry-Perot is user adjustable to accommodate short or long Rayleigh lengths. This design provides a more consistent and stable measurement of a laser system's focusing characteristics.
