Mid-infrared lasers continue to help push boundaries in many cutting-edge applications. Here are some recently published articles using Daylight Solutions' QCL lasers that we thought you might find interesting. For a full list of over 130 publications using the Daylight Solutions lasers, visit the Daylight Solutions website.

Mid-IR laser-based sensor for hydrogen peroxide detection:
Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and is of interest in both medical and environmental research. While sensitive sensor systems have been demonstrated for H2O2, these were in spectral ranges that suffered from interference from water. Professor Tittel and colleagues at Rice University have developed a QCL based sensor at 1234.055 cm-1 using a Daylight Solutions mode-hop-free laser. Their sensor demonstrated a minimum detection level of 25 ppb of H2O2 in an interference-free spectral region.

Introducing discrete frequency infrared technology for high-throughput biofluid screening:
Mid-infrared spectroscopic imaging is a rapidly emerging technique in biomedical research that takes advantage of the unique molecular fingerprint of tissues, cells, and biofluids to provide a rich biochemical image without the need for staining. Matthew Baker and colleagues at the University of Strathclyde used the award-winning Spero, the first laser-based mid-infrared microscope based on Daylight's advanced QCL technology, to image blood serum spots from patients with various types of cancer.
They demonstrated the ability to differentiate a range of cancer and non-cancerous samples even when only measuring at 9 discrete frequencies, a technique that is impossible with existing FTIR instruments. By combining the speed of the laser-based diagnosis with the ease of collection of biofluids, the researchers hope to improve the early diagnosis of cancers.

Daylight introduces new Hedgehog rapidly tunable laser:
A radically new design, built on Daylight's proven QCL technology, the new Hedgehog is Daylight's next-generation tunable laser head. Hedgehog is a unique combination of small size, high-quality CW or pulsed output, high power, and high tuning speed. Hedgehog enables rapid acquisition of molecular spectra with high accuracy, repeatability and SNR. The new Hedgehog is ideal for laboratory use or OEM applications, and is available now.

Daylight Solutions announces a new, high-speed OEM/turnkey molecular sensor platform. ChemDetect™'s high-brightness, broad-tuning, fast-scan quantum cascade laser engine provides multi-species detection of a host of gas-, liquid-, or solid-phase molecules, and a dynamic range spanning PPB to %. Ask us how ChemDetect can be tailored to your sensing application needs.

All of the above research was made possible by the advanced mid-IR tunable lasers from Daylight Solutions. Recent advances include increased power levels and tuning ranges, new CW ÜberTuners, and the introduction of the MIRcat to allow cost-effective spectral coverage across the mid-IR.
